I bought an 8000LX off ebay, which came with an already loaded dictionary. I took it to a recommended place (by my school) to have it fixed so the letters wouldn't cut off on the bottom of the paper. The guy (not certified) erased the dictionary and cleared out the RAM. The problem is, no English/steno comes up on my screen now and when I hook up my machine to my student software, it doesn't write real time like it did before.
I have a copy of a dictionary to put back on the machine and I have the conversion disk. However, the conversion instructions talk about Premier Power. I don't know what this is.
Can someone please provide insight as to what Premier Power is, how I get the dictionary loaded on my machine or if it sounds like I have more serious problems with my machine.
Thank you for any feedback.

Are you on any CAT software? e.g. Case CATalyst, DigitalCAT, Eclipse, etc.
Most newer software has the ability to Export the dictionary to a Stentura. If you have a user manual, check the index for Export options.
Premier Power is a very old CAT software. Back when the Stentura's were new, they needed a way to get your dictionary from the software to writer, so they created that old dictionary transfer program. If you are not on an older software however, then the dictionary transfer program may not be that much use to you.
Let me know what CAT software you use however and we'll try to give you more specific help. Note that some student versions block out certain functions depending on what software you use.

I don't have a dictionary of my own, but I do I have a caseCATalyst disk. The guy who "fixed" my machine gave it to me to put in when he wiped everything out. I tried to load it, but I didn't have any success. I may have just been doing it wrong.
The LCD screen isn't broken, but when that guy wiped out the memory, dictionary, etc., now I can't see my steno strokes on my screen any longer. Is this normal when a dictionary isn't loaded? Or did he possibly do more damage?
I really appreciate any help on this issue.

I just tried loading the Case CATalyst software several times. There are two different ways they have it in the manual...no success.
There is nothing in the manual about exporting.

For starters, removing a dictionary does not cause any damage to the machine. The LCD display has nothing to do with the translation on a computer either, nor should it stop realtime with the computer from working properly.
If you are trying to get steno strokes to show up, with the writer turned on click on the 'Mode' button and then the '6000+' button. Now press 'Ok'. This will display steno strokes, not English. Once you get a dictionary loaded, go back to the same spot and choose '8000' and click 'Ok'.
You started your post with "when I hook up my machine to my student software, it doesn't write real time like it did before". Then you write in another post "I tried to load [Case CATalyst], but I didn't have any success." So which is it?
At any rate, here are instructions for exporting in Case CATalyst:
Case CATalyst can export your Personal Dictionary to Stentura by clicking on the 'Tools' menu, and then by clicking on 'Export'. Choose Dictionary and Stentura and export to a floppy disk. Now make sure your writer is turned off, insert the disk, and then turn the writer on. It will now load the disk you just created in Case CATalyst.
You also mention in your first post "I have a copy of a dictionary to put back on the machine...". If the dictionary is in the Stentura format, then turn your writer off. Put the disk in the drive, and then power it on. It should load the dictionary.
Hope that helps.
