Hi sammysam,
I'll need a little more information from you in order to help you trouble-shoot this:
1) What operating system do you use (e.g. Windows XP, Windows 98, etc.)?
2) What version of Eclipse do you use (e.g. Total Eclipse, EclipseNT, Eclipse V8)
3) Have you ever gotten realtime to work with ANY writer on that computer?
You should also have a working serial port installed on the system and you need to know what COM Port it uses (e.g. Com1, Com2, etc.). You can find this out within your Device Manager by clicking the + sign next to "Ports (Com & LPT)". Then you need to tell Eclipse what Com port you are connected to.
If you have another realtime cable to test with, that would be a good thing to trouble-shoot as well. Keep in mind that realtime cables are very specific to your writer. If you purchase any cable from a computer store, it will not work with your writer.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply. I am still in school and the software on the computer is total eclipse, windows 2000 professional. I have used realtime on this computer before it was with a stentura 8000 lx, so I know the realtime is working fine. I also checked the comport and I am using com1. I tried using another reatime cord and it didn't work. thanks

Hello sammysam,
As for your realtime, if you press your setup (configuration) icon, and then on the input tab, you should be able to choose a writer. In the list, you should see StenoRam III, StenoRam III+, and StenoRam Ultra. Try doing realtime with the StenoRam III+ or the StenoRam Ultra selected as your writer.
I know I have run into at least one case in the past where realtime would only function on a specific StenoRam writer type selected. So try one of the other StenoRam selections instead.
As for your notes disk, the StenoRam writes note files to the disk using .srd extensions. These are normal and required to read in from an Xscribe disk.
Good luck getting everything working!

thanks for the wonderful replies this is such a cool site. I don't think the machine is working for realtime or the disk drive. does jmsteno fix xscribe machines and do they sell the real time cable for it and if so how much would it cost to have it repaired or where can I send it to have it repaired and how much is for the realtime cable if you know. thanks a million

Hi sammysam, Yes, JM Steno does fix Xscribe machines. As for repair quotes, your best bet is to call us at toll-free 877-956-5198 and ask to speak with a Writer Technician. They should be able to better answer any questions. And we do sell realtime cables as well. Go to our main website at www.jmsteno.com and click on "Shop Online". Cables run about $25-$35 depending on cable length. Let me know if you have any further questions.
