I am looking at purchasing a used StenoRam III or StenoRam III plus (this will be a student machine, and perhaps my initial professional machine) that I entend to use for the next two - three years. I would like to hear any comments on dependability, ease of use, etc. Also, if I have researched correctly, I understand the III plus has limitation on getting ribbons? Is it impossible, hard, or is there still a supply of ribbons to be had for these machines? Thanks for any comments and information, Denise

Hi Denise,
Sorry about the delayed response. The StenoRam III uses a ribbon (which we sell at http://www.jmsteno.com) and the StenoRam III Plus uses a ribbon cartridge (much easier to handle and we do sell the cartridges too). So there is no limitation on ribbons. Since the StenoRam III writes notes to paper, disk, ram, and realtime, it is a very dependable machine and would work very well for a student.
There is only one problem with these. We can no longer replace the shell's of these writers. So make sure not to drop or otherwise allow the writer to be impacted. The only way to replace the shell of the writer at this point is to buy another writer.
Hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Michael, Thank you for the information. I won the auction for the StenoRamIII +. I should have it shortly, so I will know what I need in ways of ribbons, cables and batteries, etc, shortly, and can get with you on those needs. The description indicates it is in good shape (fingers crossed), but thank you for the heads up on the case situation. Once I receive the machine I should know more. I am hoping I get lucky enough to get a manual to go with it. Thanks again, Denise

Hi Denise, Congratulations on the StenoRam III+. Let us know if you need anything. Most accessories (including a user manual) can be purchased from our shopping cart located at: www.jmsteno.com/vindex.htmBatteries on the StenoRam III+ are not very user friendly. If you find that your battery does not hold a charge, I would recommend sending the writer in to have our techs replace it. And if you find that the writer is in need of cleaning, we have a yearly service for $217.50. Let us know if you have any other questions.
