I finally found an older Dell laptop with Windows 98 and MSDOS for my Premier Power software. Things were rocking along fine on installation and access until I attempted to enter the edit function which gave me a blank black screen with 9C and B4 in upper lefthand corner and then froze. Please help!! I desperately need a laptop and cant' really afford the new software.

update on the problem with the Dell laptop and PP. Now I can't get past the name and password prompt. It goes to a black screen with cursor only and freezes. It is a Dell laptop with Windows 98 and a Pentium II processor. Could it be that the processor is too fast?? If anyone has a solution or suggestion please let me know. It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tracy,
According to Stenograph, Premier Power may not work on a computer faster then 250MHz. I have found some computers that are slightly faster than 250MHz and still seem to run Premier Power just fine.
As for the problems you are experiencing, it could be related to the speed. It could also be a bad install or bad install disks (even though the program may have seemed to install just fine).
You might want to try running Premier Power in DOS-mode. Click on Start -> Shut Down -> Restart in MS-DOS mode. At the prompt (e.g. c:\windows\desktop> ) type in the following: cd\ [ENTER] POWER [ENTER]
This should take you into Premier Power. Try to edit from this screen.
If you are still having trouble, then we might still be able to help. If you wanted to ship your computer to JM Steno, I can look into it further here. I would need your copy of Windows 98 and possibly copies of your Premier Power installation disks (I can help you create copies of your disks).
Otherwise we also sell computers which I pre-test with Premier Power to ensure compatibility. My most popular model for this is between $400-$500 and these are fully refurbished with warranties (extended warranties also available). All you pay for is the computer. I handle the whole install/testing for your. When you get it you can literally turn it on and begin working in Premier Power. We also supply licensed copies of Windows with each computer.
In either case I'm sure we can get you some help. Let me know if you are able to run Premier Power in DOS-mode.
