I have a Steno Ram II that just died on me so I bought a Steno Ram Ultra. The problem is I have No IDEA how to dump from the Ultra to my XEC-5. Yes, I still use it. I love it and I do have a 2001, but I don't like it very much, I only use it for spell check and to print out my final copy. Can you help me? I am in desperate need!!

Hi blinkycats,
Lets start with your realtime cable. It should have an RJ-45 connector on one end to connect into the StenoRam (which looks a little wider then a phone jack), and a 25-pin serial port on the other end which connects into the XEC-5, same spot as your StenoRam II did. Do you have this cable? Does one end fit in the StenoRam and the other in the back of your XEC-5?
If you need a cable, we have a 7' one available for $27.88. Unfortunately our store is down due to a server crash but you can still order over the phone at toll-free 877.956.5198.

I have the cable that I used to dump my notes from the Steno Ram II into the XEC-5. I will hopefully have the Ultra tomorrow and it does come with a realtime cable.not sure if it is the right one. Do I dump directly the same way as I did with the Steno ram II or is it different since I now have the disk backup?

I'd really like to use my disk to dump my notes, but no one can tell me how to get my XEC-5 to read the disk. Any suggestions?

Hi blinkycats,
You should be able to dump your notes the same way you did with your StenoRam II, provided you have the proper StenoRam Ultra to XEC-5 cable. It is not the same cable that your StenoRam II uses. In fact, there is no where to plug a StenoRam II cable into a StenoRam Ultra (as you'll see when you get it).
If the cable that comes with your StenoRam Ultra has a smaller adapter to plug into the XEC-5, then it was designed for 9-pin serial ports, not 25-pin. We have an adapter you can add to the end of it, which will adapt a 9-pin serial port to a 25-pin serial port, thus allowing you to plug into the XEC-5. The adapters are $12.95.
With regards to dumping from disk, our knowledge with the XEC-5 is limited, but I don't believe there is a way to dump via disk.
Xscribe might have released a program to read StenoRam III/III+/Ultra disks, however we do not have that nor do we know where to obtain it (if one even exists).

okay. Well, I have a 2001, but when I bought it, I was sent the edit version, not the translation version, so I'm told that won't help me either. UGH! So how do I go about buying the adapter from you? Thanks for all your help

Hi blinkycats,
Unfortunately our online store is currently down due to a server outage. Feel free to call us at toll-free 877.956.5198 to place your order. It would be best if you have your writer and realtime cable handy so we can identify the equipment you will need.
