I bought a backup computer to use while traveling. It is an old Toshiba with Windows 98. It is the same computer as one I have been using. I tried to attach my writer and do realtime, but I can't get the writer to initialize. I have a feeling I have the ports defined improperly. Please help!!!

If Power Savings is turned on, then it may disable your Com 1 port (in order to save power). This feature needs to be turned off. NOTE: Modifying the Windows Registry can be very dangerous if done incorrectly. Be extremely careful following the steps below. If you are not comfortable with these steps, please consult a computer technician. JM Steno accepts no responsibility for any damage done using these steps. Click on start Click on run Type in "regedit" and hit enter Click on the plus sign next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Click on the plus sign next to "System" Click on the plus sign next to "CurrentControlSet" Click on the plus sign next to "Services" Click on the plus sign next to "VXD" Click on the yellow folder called "VCOMM" (scroll down a little) On the right double click on "Enable Power Management" Double click on 01 and change it to 00. They should all be 0's now. Click OK. Click on the "X" and close down regedit REBOOT Check real time This solution turns "Power Management" off.
Hope that helps!
