Hi....I've been using a Toshiba Protege 660CDT laptop for my Xscribe 2001 software which has been working fine up to now. Recently the connection to charge the battery has been blinking and disconnects randomly. Thinking it might have something to do with the battery, itself, or the adapter, I purchased replacements for those but the problem still exists. This leads me to think perhaps it's the connection element to the computer that is causing the problem. Does anyone know where I can get that part or suggest what laptop would be compatible with this software in the alternative? Also, to add to the problem, when changing laptops a while back, the computer guru I went to apparently just switched the hard drive from the older to the newer one so I only have the Xscribe program on it and nothing else...Windows doesn't come up at startup. As you can tell, I'm pretty lame when it comes to this technology and need all the help I can get. Many thanks....Carolann

Hi Carolann, I set up most people on a Toshiba Tecra 8000. As long as you have a Glencoe key, there shouldn't be any trouble. You can view more here: jmsteno.com/shop/shop/item.asp?itemid=458With regards to your Protege, it sounds like the DC jack has come unsoldered from the motherboard. Since this requires tearing down the entire machine and replacing a jack, it's normally not worth the cost. There is a chance you have Windows on the hard drive. You can type in WIN at a prompt and press Enter. If Windows is on the system, it should load (provided correct path statements). However if the hard drive was just swapped out, Windows would have drivers for the computer it came out of and may not even load on this computer. Hope that helps.
