I love Maestro and refuse to use something else. I recently had a new computer built and installed Windows 98 which had the latest DOS 6 version. After installing, the system won't recognize the Maestro software key. I suspect after reading some Xscribe 2001 comments that it has to do with the speed of the computer. Any ideas? How do you keep using Maestro with the new technology hardware? Thanks

Hi Kevin,
Did you try running Maestro under Windows XP? You may need to put the file into Windows compatibility mode.
Locate MAESTRO.BAT (used to start the program) Right-Click MAESTRO.BAT and left-click 'Properties' Click on 'Compatibility' tab Place a check next to 'Run this program in compatibility...' and choose 'Windows 98 / Me' Click on 'Ok'
As far as speed being an issue, I've been able run Maestro on an HP Pavilion XE749 (700MHz Celeron, Windows 2000). Haven't tested printing on it but the program appears to work fine otherwise.
If you need help locating a refurbished computer that is compatible with Maestro, JM Steno can help. Feel free to e-mail me at computers@jmsteno.com if that interests you.
As for using Maestro on brand new equipment, it is a matter of trial and error. I know I have been unsuccessful running Maestro on an AMD Athlon 64 (2 GHz) with XP Pro (32-bit version). You do want to make sure you have a serial port installed in the back of the computer. Don't bother using USB-to-Serial Adapters as you have a less chance of those working.
Hope that helps!
