Hi,
I need some help. I just purchased a used ProCat Flash and I'm currently using Maestro version 5.10. I can't figure out a way to transfer my notes from either the machine or from the flash card to my computer. I've tried configuring it many ways and it keeps saying "Unable to establish communications with TX -- ABORT!" I had it configured in the Baron mode on the writer and chose Baron Transcriptor TX in Maestro. Please help!
Thanks so much,
Amelia

Amelia -
Sorry I can't help with your problem. But I notice that your post is dated back in April and am wondering if you have solved the dilemma in the meantime. I need to get a new steno machine and need to know which new writers will work with Maestro. Can somebody out there give us some suggestions?

Hi Esther,
I believe I spoke to Amelia on the phone regarding this issue (if not then I must have spoken with someone experiencing a similar issue). At any rate, I'll do my best to answer your question.
Writer Read Disk Read Cable Realtime ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stentura (all models) Yes No No SmartWriter Yes No Yes StenoRam III,+,Ultra Yes Yes Yes StenoRam II No Yes Yes e'lan (all models) UNTESTED UNTESTED UNTESTED
E-mail me at computers@jmsteno.com if that isn't formatting correctly on your computer and I'll email the chart to you. And ALWAYS test the writer before purchasing. Most writers need their own unique realtime/dumping cable and you must also tell Maestro which writer is being used.
As for the Flash writer, I believe it will work for realtime using the Transcriptor X writer type. It might be able to read in through a cable as well assuming you are using the ProCAT Flash Card Reader box attached to the dumping cable.

Thank you for the info, Mike.
The chart didn't format exactly, but I think I can figure it out. The Stentura will Read Disk but it won't Read Cable nor will it Realtime in Maestro. Do I have that right?
A few more questions, please:
Is this info valid for the Stentura 8000LX?
Does the 8000LX also write to some internal memory like the Ultra did?
What writer type should I choose in Maestro 5.3 for it to be compatible with the 8000LX?
Where can I buy a top-notch used 8000LX?
Thank you so much for answering my questions.

Hi Esther,
The Stentura will Read Disk but it won't Read Cable nor will it Realtime in Maestro. Do I have that right? - That is correct.
Is this info valid for the Stentura 8000LX? - The info that we have is the same for all Stentura writers.
Does the 8000LX also write to some internal memory like the Ultra did? - Yes, however I believe our last tests indicated it would not read in from the cable... more then likely for the same reason it will not do realtime.
What writer type should I choose in Maestro 5.3 for it to be compatible with the 8000LX? - From the 'Utilities' menu, choose 'Steno Options'. Choose 'W' for Stenograph SmartWriter. Then press [Enter] to exit. When asking if you want to save, press [Y] for yes.
Where can I buy a top-notch used 8000LX? - Give us a call at toll-free 877-956-5198 and ask to speak to the writer department. They can let you know on availability.
