When I try to print, I keep getting an "Error, Final Printer not available." Any ideas why? I am not able to print any transcripts anymore. I am on the same printer and same laptop as the prior five years! I am able to print a regular document from Windows when I exit TurboCat. I think it's the software key. What are your thoughts?

Hi Diane,
I normally receive the same error when I don't have a printer connected to the computer. If you do have your printer connected, turned on, and online, and you are still unable to print, it could very well be your key.
Before spending money on a new key though, you need to make sure that your BIOS has "Standard bi-Directional" selected as your parallel port type. Consult your user manual for entering your BIOS and changing this setting.
*note* To enter the BIOS on a Toshiba notebook, hold down your [ESC] key while turning on the computer. It should flash a message asking you to press F1 to enter setup. On IBM notebooks, turn on the computer and then press F1 at the IBM logo screen. For Dell notebooks, press F2 after turning the computer on.
If you are sure it has bi-directional support enabled, drop me an e-mail at technical@jmsteno.com and we can try a couple other things.
